Baroque Festival this weekend

Thanks to the support of Capricorn Private Wealth, the Namibian National Symphony Orchestra (NNSO) stages another colourful programme for this year's Baroque Festival on Saturday, 11 and Sunday, 12 March 2023.
In its continued efforts to promote young Namibian classical musicians by allowing them to perform at concerts with the orchestra, the NNSO has invited musicians from Youth Orchestras of Namibia (Yona), the College of the Arts and private music institutions. “This collaboration is an excellent opportunity for young musicians to learn the workings of an orchestra and see how devoted musicians can work together to produce a work of art,” said NNSO’s board chairperson, Irmgard Rannersmann.
This year’s Baroque Festival see Angelina Akawa’s vocal performance of Händel’s Verdi Prati; Shayan Azadeh and Matippa Bengesai playing Corelli’s Concerto Grosso on recorder; Alissa Bogomolova on flute playing Allegro third movement of Vivaldi’s Concerto in a minor; Anna Verhusa on flute playing the first movement of the same Concerto; and Edlin Hochobeb and Susanne de Boor playing the first movement of the Concerto for two violins.
There is also a cello concerto by Vivaldi played by Juliette Nel, Anina Becker on recorder playing Andante e Spiccato from Marcello, and Pieter Kotze on violin performing Vivaldi’s Concerto in d minor.
The NNSO will treat audiences to the concerto for four violins in b minor, a beautiful piece of music to finish the concert's first half.
“As a grand finale, the Cantare Audire Choir performs Vivaldi's Gloria. Cantare Audire, led by Martina Visser, has completed several concerts since its revival in 2021,” said Rannersmann. “Xavier Cloete, a young and dynamic conductor from South Africa, will conduct the concert.”
Tickets cost N$120 for adults and N$80 for children and pensioners. Tickets are available at webtickets.com.na, Pick n Pay or at the doors of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS) Aula on the nights of the concerts. The concerts start at 19:00.
Potential audiences can contact the NNSO by visiting their website at www.nnso.info or emailing [email protected] for more information.
