The Children's Cultural Centre in Belgrade, Serbia, held its 25th international painting competition “Joy of Europe”, in which children from all over the world aged 4 to 18 took part by creating their artworks in various painting techniques (watercolour, gouache, tempera, pastel, collage and combined techniques on paper), drawing techniques (pencil, charcoal and ink) and graphic techniques (drypoint and linocut). The Belgrade Children's Cultural Centre received over 2000 works of art from cities across Serbia, as well as Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Croatia, India, China, Lithuania, Maldives, Nepal, Poland, Romania, Russia, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Thailand and Turkey and Namibia.
The participation of Namibian schools was made possible because the Consulate of the Republic of Namibia in Belgrade, Serbia, received a letter about the competition and Ms. Draga Boskovic, the wife of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Namibia PrEng Vasilije Boskovic, committed to sponsoring 12 to 14 schools directly to be able to participate in this competition. As a result of their direct involvement, four schools submitted artwork for the competition, namely Delta Primary and Secondary School, Emma Hoogenhout and St. Paul’s College.
A jury examined the submitted artworks and the selected works are currently being shown in an exhibition taking place until 25 October at the Gallery of the Children's Cultural Centre in Belgrade.
Of the works of art submitted by Namibian students, two were awarded prizes: Caitlin Reah (13) from St. Paul's College and Jatanana Patoko (14) from Delta Secondary School.
