KIFA Week 2024
KIFA Week 2024 runs from 29 November to 6 December, under the theme “Creative Competence”. This week-long event will celebrate the power of the arts to foster cultural understanding, economic growth, and democratic values, bringing together local and international artists, cultural advocates, and industry leaders.
Veronique Kuchekana-Chirau, Chief Programme Development and Partnerships Officer highlighted the festival’s significance: “Creativity transcends borders, connecting people and fostering unity. KIFA Week amplifies Namibia’s creative voice on a global stage.”
Festival highlights
Workshops & Skill Development: The festival kicks off with a Financial Literacy Workshop on Monday (2 December) at the National Library of Namibia, in partnership with Ndapunikwa Investments, aimed at empowering creatives with financial management skills.
Youth Engagement & Cultural Education: KIFA Week prioritises youth engagement through programs like the Namib Story Train (4 – 7 December) and African Literature for Children (7 December), introducing young audiences to global storytelling traditions.
Performances & Collaborations: Music enthusiasts can enjoy performances by Namibian band Ou Slow at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre on 29 November, with additional shows by Fasie Kay on 3 December and Scarlet Grey on 7 December.
Exhibitions & Heritage: The Young Creatives Exhibition: “ABS – The Untold Stories” opens on 3 December, showcasing Namibia’s cultural history and modern artistic expression.
Panels & Industry Insights: Thought-provoking panels will explore topics like “Digital Solutions for Creatives” and “Art as a Destination: Unlocking Tourism Through Creativity” on 4 and 5 December, offering valuable insights for artists, policymakers, and cultural leaders.
Key performances and workshops will be live-streamed on KIFA Online, ensuring global access and fostering international collaboration.
Joshua Chirau, KIFA Founder, emphasised the festival’s mission: “KIFA Week 2024 is more than a festival – it’s a platform for growth, innovation, and cultural pride, driving economic and democratic progress.”
KIFA Week 2024 collaborates with partners, including the FNCC, National Theatre of Namibia, Namibia Library and Archives Service, and ACE Novation (Singapore).
