Join the opening of the 'Troubled Waters' exhibition tonight at 18:00 at The Project Room. The exhibition offers a glimpse into how acts of corruption - big and small - can impact our lives.
The artists Vilho Nuumbala and Ruth Stanford were introduced to each other by the director of The Project Room gallery, Frieda Lühl, who saw similar qualities in their work. Both artists share an interest in social justice and improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
Together, Stanford and Nuumbala collaborated remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic to create 'Troubled Waters'.
Fishrot, which first appeared in the news towards the end of 2019, continued to garner national attention as the players in the scandal faced justice. Stanford's contribution to 'Troubled Waters' presents the Fishrot scandal as characteristic of the prevalence of government corruption in nations around the world. Nuumbala's images provide an emotional insight into the harm governments can inflict on their own citizens when greed is prioritised over service delivery.
