Swakopmund has been nominated as one of the best destinations in Africa at the World Culinary Awards. The Nedbank Swakop Food Fest has also been nominated as one of the best culinary festivals on the continent.
"This recognition reflects the hard work and passion of everyone involved in making the festival a celebration of culinary excellence. We are excited to continue to place the rich flavours and colourful food culture in Namibia on the world stage," Dalene Stephanus, the founder and organiser of the festival, told NMH about the nomination.
She set up the festival in 2019 out of necessity to earn her bread and butter and said in an interview with NMH last year that she expected the festival to be "just another market".
"I was really just trying to survive. I was going through a difficult time financially and I had to think of something to keep myself busy while I got my affairs in order," she said at the time.
Gmundner Lodge near Dordabis has also been nominated for one of Africa's best farm-to-table restaurants.
Namibian restaurants and hotels also compete for the titles of best restaurant in Namibia and best hotel restaurant nationwide.
