NACN takes Act under review

The National Arts Council of Namibia (NACN) announced the commencement of a pre-phase project consultation for the review of the National Arts Fund Act and the drafting of supporting regulations, a UNESCO Aschberg Funded Project.
This initial consultation will take place in Windhoek on Wednesday (26 June) with the Directorate of Arts, Extension Officers.
In line with the NACN's commitment to promoting and nurturing the arts in Namibia, after hosting the pre-phase consultation, a 14-region consultation tour will be conducted from 1 to 18 July 2024. The primary goal is to overhaul the National Arts Fund Act No. 1 of 2005 to better support artists and foster cultural growth in Namibia.
This will include the formulation of clearer regulations for the Act, and we encourage active participation from the media, artists, policymakers, government officials, and the general public.
The NACN invites stakeholders to attend consultation sessions on the review of the Act and the formulation of supporting regulations through consultative meetings and discussions.
This UNESCO Aschberg-funded project, facilitated by the National Specialist - Patrick Sam and supervised by Nigerian international specialist Ojoma Ochai (UNESCO Facility Expert), aims to establish a robust legal framework to support the arts sector in Namibia.
All consultations are half-day (max 4 hours with morning sessions from 08:30 – 12:00 and afternoon sessions from 14:00 to 18:00.
