After a 10-year hiatus, the prestigious - and controversial - Kora Awards rewarding talents from the African continent in various music genres, is back.
For the 2024 edition, Namibian artists and creatives are preselected in seven categories in the top 40 and will compete with others from the continent to become a nominee.
The pre-selected artists are Gazza, Willy G and LVMU for Best Collaboration; Lioness for Best Female Artist; Emanuel Rose for Best Male Artist; Waters for Best Male Artist; Khadijah for Best Female Artist; Luis Munana and Maria Nepembe for Best Influencer; and The Ell’s, Young T Wokongha and ML Musik for Best Artist/Group.
According to the Kora Awards website, the preselection of artists began on 1 December 2023 and will continue until 29 February 2024, with the final nominees set to be made official on Friday, 30 August.
“On Friday, 1 March we will announce the top 20 and on the evening of August 30th we will know the final nominees for the 2024 edition of the Kora Awards,” Adamou Banoufe, Central Africa delegate of the Kora Awards, said at a media briefing late last year.
