Nam’s Movie Guy heading to Comic Con Africa

Local freelance journalist and content creator Barry de Klerk has been selected as a member of the media team of this year's Comic Con Africa, taking place in Johannesburg from 22 to 25 September.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for any journalist and I am really looking forward to representing Namibia. Journalists from all over Africa will be in attendance and as Namibia’s representative, I will be able to cover the event,” Barry said.
He added that as a freelance journalist and content creator, this is both an opportunity for personal growth and a chance to use his newfound knowledge to improve his content and to help others better their content.
The convention features talent from across the world that will share their knowledge with visitors. “The film, publishing and entertainment industry will be well-represented and this is an ideal opportunity for Namibians to see how things function. Personally, I am excited to go to the event and to do the work I’m passionate about,” Barry said.
Comic Con Africa focuses on all elements of pop culture and brings international and local comic artists, film and TV celebrities, and Cosplayers to South African shores where they meet fans, sign autographs and have photo ops. Packed with championships, competitions, super show specials, product launches, workshops, panels, Q&A sessions, screenings, activations, and interactive experiences, there is something for everyone to enjoy – whether you are a casual fan or a bona fide geek.
The South African Comic Con journey began in 2018 when the event was launched in Johannesburg. In 2019, Comic Con Africa reached 71 000 guests over four days. (https://comicconafrica.co.za/)
Since his expenses are not covered by the organisers, Barry has to raise funds himself. In light of this he is seeking support to help fund the trip.
“To break it down, I need to pay for accommodation, transport to Johannesburg, and transport to and from the venue. My expenses will be around N$16 000, so, I am currently raising funds on my social media pages. Supporters can win some awesome prizes, including cookbooks, a shopping voucher from Spar, a hamper from Christian Empowerment Clothing, and custom-made goods by CVC Creations.
“I will really appreciate all the support I can get!”
