Wolfshack Restaurant and Bar reopened its doors on Independence Avenue in conjunction with an initiative together with the City of Windhoek to make the central business district (CBD) safer for residents and tourists.
Wolfshack, formerly located in Macadam Street in the southern industrial area, is now located in the Chelsea Food Court.
Miguel Pinguinhas, the previous owner of O’Portuga Restaurant, opened the new food court here at the beginning of the year. There is a selection of fish, Mexican and Portuguese dishes, as well as a cocktail bar and a tattoo studio in the courtyard.
Carmen Visagie, owner of Wolfshack, said she plans to host a series of events and theme nights soon.
“The idea behind this new venue is to recreate a Cape Town city centre vibe,” she said.
Along with this are several security measures such as the introduction of private security guards, a secure parking lot and security cameras. "We see ourselves as a diverse business that welcomes people from all walks of life. We want to make the city centre safer for all residents and tourists," said Visagie.
Wolfshack opened just before Covid hit in 2020 and promptly had to close for about seven months due to the epidemic. It was then flooded by heavy rain in December 2022 and had to be renovated again for three months. But now it has finally found a new home in the heart of the city.
"We aim to make a positive change to the nightlife in the city centre. We want to bring it back to life," Visagie said.
