UNAM Art Alumni: From Academic Challenges to Professional Success

Former art students from the University of Namibia (UNAM) have made a name for themselves in the arts industry, both individually and as a team. Leigh Williams and Hendrick Thetete, both with Bachelors of Arts degrees from the Faculty of Humanities, Society and Development, recently shared their journey into painting and drawing. Their qualifications served as a guide to their skills, after which they honed their art over a number of years. They deal with music, videography and photography as well as podcasts. Furthermore, Williams is focused on graphic design, while Thetete specialises in commissioned art. Both have repeatedly contributed to the local art scene. They laid the foundation for this while they were still students, when they also applied works of art to container walls as part of their study assignments (pictured). Here Williams depicts the encounter of an Ovahimba man (Traditional) with a robot (Modern). Photo: UNAM
