The local manufacturer of Namib Chilli sauces announced last week that in addition to its sauces that are available at several chain stores like Pick n Pay, Woermann Brock at the coast and Metro, it will expand its operations even further with the local wholesaler Wütow Trading that will henceforth distribute its products to reach its market better.
"Our mission is to become the largest manufacturer of chilli products in Namibia, and our vision is for Namib Chilli to become a household name and become standard fare on every table in the country," Namib Chilli said in a statement.
Johann Viljoen started Namib Chilli when he was forced to earn an income as his plans to work with his wife, Luzaan, at an accommodation establishment at Twyfelfontein fell flat due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Johann happened to make a chilli sauce one night and took what was left of it with him on a camping trip sometime later. Meanwhile, the sauce's flavours had "evolved," making him curious.
He then began experimenting with various chilli sauces and later gave them to family and friends.
"My wife scolded me one day and said I should stop giving away the sauces and I rather start selling them," Johann previously told NMH about the start of his business.
He then started selling these sauces at markets in Swakopmund and later began exporting to Europe and South Africa. – [email protected]
