West Nest rises from the ashes
Ready for business
The lodge now boasts a refreshed design and several new features.
Following months of relentless work and unrelenting resolve, West Nest Lodge reopened its doors earlier this month, reflecting on a successful return after its main building burned down. The reopening celebrated on 2 November, showcased a newly enhanced facility along with the resilience of its owner and employees who weathered a challenging rebuilding journey.
The lodge, a beloved retreat for families, business travellers and tourists, faced a significant setback when its main building, once a hub for conferences and events, was destroyed by a fire. “Sorting through the rubble and managing the cash flow while planning the rebuild was a monumental task,” Jo-Monique Kohne said. Despite the obstacles, the lodge team persevered, fuelled by support from loyal guests, neighbours and friends.
Memorable experience
Now, with a refreshed design and several new features, West Nest Lodge promises an even more memorable experience. One of the most notable additions is an indoor swimming pool ideal for winter stays and a favourite among children during windy days. For those looking to unwind, a small, quiet lounge provides a peaceful setting for reading, and board games catering to guests seeking relaxation.
The lodge has also introduced a brand new function venue, the "Kalahari Kraal", designed to host wedding receptions, conferences, birthday celebrations and other special events. With its enduring chapel and picturesque outdoor locations, West Nest Lodge remains a top choice for weddings.
The reopening festivities were met with enthusiasm, as guests danced late into the night. Visitors also admired the lodge’s revamped reception area, featuring a striking windmill centrepiece that pays homage to the Kalahari’s charm.
Gratitude
The owner expressed gratitude to all who supported the rebuilding effort. “My employees and their families depend on me and our loyal guests expect the standard they have come to know. The prayers, encouragement and visits from everyone kept me going.”
Looking ahead, the lodge aims to attract guests year-round, with the indoor pool serving as a winter highlight and hearty meals from its farm kitchen complementing summer days by the outdoor pool and bar.
West Nest Lodge stands as a testament to resilience, community support and innovation. It invites families, business travellers, wedding parties and tourists to create lasting memories in its restored areas.
