Waltons has been around since 1979, when it started off as a traditional stationery shop. However, many things have changed over the past forty-plus years and with the company growing from strength to strength, their product selection has also increased tremendously.
While the focus remains on stationery, Waltons has evolved the business to also include selling office furniture as well as cleaning materials with which they also launched their own brand called A+.
Waltons also ventured into catering, now selling items like coffee, tea, sugar, cutlery and more, because these are things that are also commonly used in a board room set-up.
According to national sales manager Dewet Botes, “most of the stock we have available permanently, but if it’s not on hand, we will make sure to get it to our customers in a decent amount of time”.
Botes says that the business rests on two legs: Firstly, as a retail stationer boasting 11 stores countrywide, with three in the capital and one each in Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Otjiwarongo, Tsumeb, Rundu, Oshakati, Ondangwa and Keetmanshoop. “We are well-known for this leg of the business and we offer a variety of products that help ensure our customers leave satisfied,” he says.
As a stationer, one of the company’s biggest projects for the company is their back-to-school campaign, where they prepare repacked stationery boxes for schools or individual parents. “We know how busy parents are raising their children, and often they simply have no idea how to identify what’s on their child’s stationery list. We make the process of acquiring stationery as easy as pie, so you have one less thing to stress about,” Botes said.
Parents or schools can simply email ([email protected]), or call or WhatsApp (083 283 8000) the school’s stationery list to them and they will make sure everything is ready for you to pick up. Waltons also enjoys close relationships with a number of schools, making the process still easier. “You simply state the school name and the grade your child is in, and we make sure you have what you need,” he said.
The second leg is the commercial side of the business that focuses on corporate clients. “We have multiple sales staff across the country. It’s as easy as picking up the phone, talking to one of our sales people about your company’s needs, and they will supply you with a quotation,” he said. They even help with deliveries.
Waltons Namibia also offers accounts, giving customers 30 days to settle.
