Police warn again crime hotspots

The City Police has published a list of danger zones in the capital where crime is rife.
Crime in the capital is reaching new heights, according to the Windhoek City Police, who this week released a list of 50 danger points.
The list indicates where, when and why the capital's streets need to be policed against crime.
In the vicinity of the Wanaheda police station, the police encourage people to be vigilant at checkpoints along the Monte Christo road and behind the A. Shipena Secondary School.
Another danger point is near Hage Geingob High School and at the intersection of Abraham Mashego and Monte Christo. People should be aware that the law on alcohol is being broken here and theft is taking place, including the grabbing of mobile phones.
The danger on the Monte Christo road lies at the three- and four-way intersections, namely at Usave, the Havana landfill and at Walvis Bay, Zambia and Outapi Street.
Havana's residents must be wary of robberies, burglaries, assaults, sexual violence and murder.
In Goreangab is Matsitsi Street's intersection with Green Mountain Road a danger zone where robberies, rape, assault and housebreaking occur. The soccer fields and Dario, Bartlet, Kariba and Kingsley Street, are also dangerous, according to the City Police.
Eveline Street in Greenwell Matongo is also a crime hotspot where illegal alcohol sales lead to assaults, robberies and vehicle break-ins. At the Puma filling station, Siyanda Court's bus stop at the intersection in front of New World Bar, Masipiri's bus stop and in Tola Street, people should be extra vigilant.
In Wanaheda, home burglaries, vehicle break-ins and robberies occur. Marsey Street, near Xwama, Zambezi Street and the river bed behind Woermann Brock, and the Wanaheda bus stop can be dangerous.
Residents of Barug, Antiochus, and Arimathea Street and near the riverbed along Pomonzi in Luxury Hill, Katutura, should also be on their guard. Prostitution also occurs here, according to the police.
The fuel station in Soweto and the area opposite the A. Shipena Secondary School are also danger zones.
Residents of Ombili should be on the lookout in Ongava, Etetewe and Omuryambabi Streets, at the four-way intersection of Etetewe and Omuvapu Street, and near the Woermann Brock. Home burglaries, assaults, thefts and robberies are also rife here.
Other danger areas include Onheleiwa Street, Ongawa Street, the three-way intersection at Lyeeta and the ATM at Stop ’n Stop in Okuryangava.
Okahandja Park's open market and Rev. Paulus Gawaseb Street are targeted by criminals, while Hakahana's clinic, Omulunga Street and the area near Moses Garoeb Primary School are unsafe.
People should remain vigilant in Grysblok at the four-way intersection and near any river bed.
Numerous bank attacks, taxi hijackings, assaults, drug sales and vehicle thefts have occurred in Otjomuise's part of Matsitsi Street.
Katjikuru Katjiongwa and the area near the Otjomuise clinic are also particularly unsafe after 20:00 and in the mornings before noon.
The City Police added Tokyo, Vienna, Beijing and Kitchen Street to the list. Furthermore, crime occurs at the Otjomuise shopping centre on Cassamba Street, and along Daan Viljoen Road. In Rocky Crest, the dirt road is dangerous, along with Black Rock Island Street, Sam Nujoma Drive and Ichaboe Street.
In Khomasdal, Gladiola, Moses Garoeb and Korynalyne Street are known for house burglaries and robberies at knifepoint.
At Ramatex's southern gate, robberies occur under false pretences.
Crossings on Hans-Dietrich Genscher and Florence Nightingale Street, and at the Single Quarters, are targeted, and also on Independence Avenue, especially from Clemence Kapuuo Street to the KFC.
In the Herero location, crime is a possibility especially at Parliament Bar, Herero Mall and at BSK Bar.
Miami Service, Big Shops, Dolam 6 Bar, Isak Kazongari Street, Kindergarten Street and Gemeente's Nama 10 riverbed are also danger zones.
The City Police warned residents to be on their guard in the vicinity of Africa Day Bar, Malakadraai and along Shanghai and Mikka Simbuli Street.
NaTIS and the dirt road behind the Van Eck Power Station are areas where crime prevails, along with the Black Chain, the Red Cross and the Monte Christo Shopping Centre.
In the CBD, the City Police warn to be on alert at Wernhil Shopping Centre and Maerua Mall as well as Ausspannplatz, while Tauben Glen, Woermann Brock in Hochland Park and Westlane shopping centre in Pionierspark Extension 1 can also be dangerous.
The Baines shopping centre in Pionierspark, Grove Mall and Gamsastraat in Kleine Kuppe, the Unam campus's northern gate, Auas Valley, the entire Dorado Valley, and the area around NUST are also listed as danger points.
Furthermore, Windhoek North, Academia, Cimbebasia, Auasblick, Suiderhof and the vicinity of Olympia's Lolo Park are known for house break-ins and robberies.
In Eros, the City Police highlight Ziegler, Gathemann and Amasoniet Street, the Andreas dirt road and the parking lot in front of Nampost as danger points. Ludwigsdorf's Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Lenie Streets are also listed for house burglaries. – [email protected]
