Aiming towards better motor skills improvement
The Old Mutual Foundation strengthened its commitment to supporting children with learning challenges by donating N$50 000 to the Mainstream Foundation in the Zambezi region. The sponsorship aims to enhance the Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP), which is designed to improve motor skills and physical well-being for children with diverse needs.
At a handover ceremony, Old Mutual Investment Group Managing Director Lionel Kannemeyer and Old Mutual Corporate Segment Managing Director Patricia Olivier, who also chairs the Old Mutual Foundation, presented the donation. The funding was used to provide essential materials such as mattresses, floor mats, sports and rehabilitation equipment, and to restore the Foundation’s garden, boosting food security for the children.
The Mainstream Foundation, founded in 2010 by parents of children with disabilities, offers emotional, physical, and intellectual support, focusing on promoting self-confidence. The MATP initiative plays a key role in encouraging physical activity, improving coordination, and fostering independence among children with disabilities.
This donation is expected to expand the programme’s capabilities and upgrade the Foundation’s facilities, ensuring a safer and more supportive environment for the children.
Speaking at the event, both Kannemeyer and Olivier expressed their pride in contributing to such an impactful initiative. “We are inspired by the difference these resources will make in the lives of these children. We hope our support empowers the Mainstream Foundation to continue their excellent work and reach even more children in need,” Olivier said.
The partnership marks a significant step in enhancing opportunities for children with disabilities in the Zambezi region, with the hopes that this collaboration will inspire more community involvement and support for similar initiatives.
