Boost for Little Green Ambassadors

Old Mutual Foundation selects 28 schools for 2024 initiative
The Old Mutual Foundation (OMF) has announced the 28 schools chosen for the 2024 Little Green Ambassadors (LGA) initiative, a programme designed to foster environmental awareness and sustainable practices among Namibian primary school students. Supporting two primary schools in each of Namibia's 14 regions, this initiative reflects OMF’s dedication to community development and environmental stewardship.
The LGA initiative aims to empower students to engage actively in conserving natural resources and boosting food security. Each selected school will receive two fruit-bearing trees, two shade trees, compost bags, and bio rock in a starter pack valued at N$6,000, intended to promote a hands-on approach to environmental conservation.
The programme encourages sustainability and environmental responsibility among young learners by equipping them with resources to improve their school environments and understand their role in protecting the planet. Adding a competitive edge, OMF will award prizes totalling N$105 000 to the top five schools showing the best growth and care of their trees. Prizes range from N$40 000 for first place to N$5 000 for fifth.
OMF Chairperson Patricia Olivier highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “Through the Little Green Ambassadors Initiative, we are planting not just trees but the seeds of environmental stewardship in our young learners.”
Khomas Regional Governor Hon. Laura McLeod-Katjirua also voiced her support, urging a collective commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability.
By investing in education and community health, the LGA initiative aims to build a greener future, instilling a lifelong sense of environmental responsibility in Namibia’s youth.
