Careers Expo underway

The 14th annual Careers Expo was officially opened on Wednesday and is currently underway in the capital.
The welcoming event brought together stakeholders, corporate leaders and education specialists to support Namibian youth in career development.
Founded in 2009 by young professionals, the expo has become a vital platform, connecting learners with industry experts, corporate leaders and higher education institutions. Proudly supported by Sanlam Namibia and UNFPA, is currently underway and aims to guide students toward informed career choices.
Last year, the expo welcomed 3 500 learners, featured 30 exhibition stands, and hosted 25 expert speakers. This year, an even greater impact is expected.
Speaking at the launch, Careers Expo chairperson Jason Kasuto emphasised the importance of exposure and networking in addressing Namibia’s economic challenges. Looking ahead, Kasuto announced that in 2026, the expo will expand into a full Careers Week, fostering deeper engagement between learners, educators, policymakers and industry leaders. He also introduced the Sanlam Speakers Hall, where experts will share insights on career growth and job market trends.
‘Bridging the gap’
Education minister Sanet Steenkamp praised the initiative for bridging the gap between education and career readiness: “The Careers Expo is a beacon of knowledge, equipping learners with the tools to make informed decisions about their futures.”
She highlighted the ministry’s focus on enhancing education infrastructure, free higher education, and youth apprenticeship programmes.
UNFPA country representative Erika Goldson emphasised the importance of investing in youth: “Namibia’s youthful population is an opportunity for development—if provided with the right knowledge, skills, and opportunities.”
Sanlam CEO Tertius Stears reaffirmed their support: “Choosing a career can feel overwhelming. Sanlam aims to be a guiding hand, helping learners explore their passions and make informed decisions.”
With strong backing from industry players, educational institutions, and government agencies, the 14th Annual Careers Expo promises to shape the future workforce and empower Namibian youth with career knowledge and skills.
The expo is taking place at the Windhoek Country Club and concludes later today.
