ACDT unveils first book of 2024 education project for Namibian children
The African Child Development Trust (ACDT) announced the printing of the first book of the 2024 education project. This initiative aims to provide free educational materials for grade 3, grade 2, grade 1, and pre-primary learners in Namibia. The books will be available in Republikein street sale newspapers and all Namibian Sun newspapers. Pre-primary books will also be delivered to 30 000 children in over 500 schools across Namibia.
In a significant move to promote inclusivity, the pre-primary books will be delivered in nine languages, namely English, Afrikaans, Oshikwanyama, Oshindonga, Otjiherero, Khoekhoegowab, Silozi, Thimbukushu, and Rumanyo. The books for grades 1 to 3 will be available in English.
Each book will contain six weeks' worth of content based on the Namibian curriculum from the National Institute for Education Development (NIED).
A total of six books will be distributed per grade, covering all 36 weeks of the curriculum.
Significant strides
The ACDT has already made significant strides in this project, having printed and distributed over 15 million books to over 360 000 children across Namibia. This has been made possible through the support of partners such as Newsprint Namibia and Logistics Hub Namibia, who drive over 11 000km daily to reach all 14 regions of the country.
In addition to the printed materials, online learning materials and videos are available on the Zoshy online school at zoshy.online. Daily video lessons are also broadcast on NTV, from 09:30 to 11:30 Monday to Friday on DSTV channel 285 and GoTV channel 25.
The ACDT extends its gratitude to its partners and sponsors: The Capricorn Foundation, First National Bank, Powerline Africa, and Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropies, for their generous donations and continuous involvement in the project.
