First beneficiaries of Chair & Desk Initiative announced
The Old Mutual Foundation (OMF) announced the names of the schools selected to benefit from the Chair & Desk Initiative.This initiative, designed to improve the learning environment in government schools across the 14 regions, marks a pivotal moment in our commitment to fostering education and community development.
OMF received 838 applications. Due to the overwhelming demand for repairs and new furniture, the foundation committed to start by assisting two schools in three regions over three years until 2026.
The application review process was extensive, with two staff members from the Harold Pupkewitz Graduate School of Business of the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) assisting with the review and selection process.
In addition to the overwhelming responses from schools, OMF received 81 applications from vendors across the country. Selected vendors will be contacted based on geographic location to submit quotations for repairs and supply works by 22 September 2023.
First, OMF will assist the following regions and schools: Zambezi, repairs of chairs and desks: Silumbi Combined School, and the supply of new chairs and desks: Mavuluma Secondary School; Omaheke, repairs of chairs and desks: Gunichas Roman Catholic Primary School while the supply of new chairs and desks: C. Ngatjizeko Primary School as well as Drimiopsis Primary School (sponsored by Futurenergy Consultancy CC). Lastly, in the Kunene Region, repairs of chairs and desks: Okapara Mobile Unit (Ondao School) while the supply of new chairs and desks: Elias Amxab Combined School.
OMF believes that together, change can be brought about. Thus, the foundation invites individuals and corporations to stand with it, by contributing to this initiative.
OMF acknowledges Futurenergy Consultancy CC's pledge of N$50 000 towards the initiative to date.
