Fortescue brings //Kharas learners to Careers Expo
In a world that must move beyond fossil fuels, Fortescue Energy proved its commitment to empowering students from the //Kharas region towards a future in green energy.Fortescue partnered with this year’s Namibia Careers Expo to support education in the green energy sector, providing a platform where experts could share the impact that future projects will have on job opportunities in Namibia's evolving energy landscape.
Fortescue is on a mission to accelerate the adoption of sustainable and green energy solutions globally, and sponsored 14 learners from Lüderitz Senior Secondary School and Angra Pequena, to attend the Namibia Careers Expo.
The two-day event aimed to inspire the youth of Namibia and impart knowledge about the burgeoning opportunities in the energy sector.
Fortescue Country Director Chris Movirongo welcomed the expo, emphasising the urgency for students to embrace and master technologies driving the transition beyond fossil fuels. He highlighted hydrogen as a promising solution, urging students to seize the opportunity to pioneer a greener, more sustainable future.
Furthermore, Movirongo stressed the pivotal role students play in shaping a cleaner, brighter tomorrow.
The 14 visiting students had the opportunity to explore job prospects in the green hydrogen industry, gaining insight into the diverse career opportunities available in the sector and the importance of majoring in green hydrogen energy-related fields.
Inspire and prepare
Abed Erastus, director of the Namibia Careers Expo, applauded corporates for believing in this vision that was launched 13 years ago.
“This expo aims to inspire and prepare the next generation of leaders. We believe that by providing students with the tools and knowledge they need, we can create a more sustainable future for all. Hosting such an event that received over 3 000 students is not easy, but with the support of companies such as Fortescue this was made possible.”
One of the sponsored students, Petra Milonga, expressed her thanks, saying, “When we heard about the expo, I thought it was going to be an event where we would just be in a hall, sitting for hours, listening and taking notes, but when we came here it was different. Moving from stand to stand was very interesting and we got to see other learners from other schools. It was so nice and I learned a lot, I am grateful for the opportunity,” she said.
