Hatika transforming lives

In the heart of the Goreangab informal settlement in Windhoek, the Hatika Adult Education Centre stands as a beacon of hope for the local community.
Founded on 4 May 2019 by the dedicated educator Wilfried Mbamba, this transformative centre has enriched lives and shaped futures through education since its establishment. The Capricorn Foundation is a key partner in Hatika Adult Education Centre's success story and has contributed just over N$45 000 to the centre for the procurement of new laptops, learning materials, and the construction of a new classroom, significantly enhancing the learning experience for the students.
The centre offers diverse courses to cater to the community's needs. From language classes, including English and Afrikaans, to practical skills such as Basic Computer Levels 1 and 2, Sign Language, Knitting, Arts and Crafts, Financial Literacy, Small Business Management, and Women's Empowerment and Learner's Licence classes, the Hatika Adult Education Centre equips its students with valuable skills that enhance their employability and improve their quality of life.
Advancement
With a focus on economic advancement, education, and training, the Capricorn Foundation plays a crucial role in creating pathways to a brighter future through initiatives such as the Hatika Adult Education Centre.
“The Capricorn Foundation believes in uplifting and empowering communities to achieve sustainable development and impact,” said Marlize Horn, Group Executive: Brand & Corporate Affairs and Executive Officer: Capricorn Foundation.
The Hatika Centre boasts 89 registered students actively participating in the various courses offered.
However, it is not just an institution; it’s a community-driven initiative that has become a hub for education and skill development through the commitment and passion of dedicated volunteers who generously contribute their time every Saturday.
Wilfried Mbamba, the driving force behind Hatika Adult Education Centre, is a teacher by profession and a firm believer in the limitless potential of education. Under his guidance, the centre symbolises hope and progress in the Goreangab informal settlement.
“We are very proud of our achievements at the Hatika Adult Education Centre. We thank the Capricorn Foundation, which has demonstrated its commitment to education and community development through its generous support and made it possible for us to add more value for our students,” he said.
