HP-GSB hosts SAP information-sharing session
The Harold Pupkewitz Graduate School of Business (HP-GSB), in collaboration with VEYA and SAP Education, held a successful SAP information-sharing session in Windhoek recently. This event brought together industry stakeholders, NUST academics, and representatives from VEYA and SAP Education to discuss the role of SAP systems in Namibia and assess local industry needs for improved SAP training and support services.
The session aimed to gather feedback from industry professionals to finalize an agreement between NUST, VEYA, and SAP Education, which will localise SAP training and certification in Namibia. This initiative ensures that businesses and students have access to world-class SAP software education.
Participants discussed the current utilisation of SAP systems in Namibia, noting that while some sectors have implemented SAP, full utilisation is hampered by reliance on support from South Africa. Industry stakeholders emphasized the necessity of localised training to boost productivity, reduce costs, and maximise the benefits of SAP systems.
Currently, there is an existing agreement between SAP and NUST’s Faculty of Computing and Informatics, which offers an overview of SAP to students. The new agreement aims to enhance this by allowing students to pursue advanced SAP training and certifications through HP-GSB, making them more competitive in the job market.
The feedback collected will inform the upcoming agreement, aligning it with the specific needs of Namibian businesses. A strong preference for local training delivery was expressed, which would help organizations save on costs associated with sending employees abroad for training.
HP-GSB and VEYA are in the process of finalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will establish Namibia as a training hub for SAP certification by 2025. This local approach will provide students access to SAP’s globally recognized programs, while also equipping industry professionals with skills to enhance business operations and drive innovation.
