IPPR donates books to archives, libraries

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) donated 1 000 books to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, in particular to the Directorate of Namibia Library and Archives Service.
The book, A Guide to the Namibian Economy is authored by the renowned Research & Applied Economist Robin Sherbourne, now in its 5th edition, with a total value of N$300 000. The books are going to be distributed to 66 public libraries and school libraries across the country.
The donation was handed over by Graham Hopwood the IPPR Executive Director, who stated that the guide is a comprehensive 700-page summary of the Namibian economy, which is a valuable resource, that would greatly benefit community libraries and secondary schools across the nation, especially the students engaged in commerce-related studies.
The donation was received by Sanet Steenkamp, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Education, Arts & Culture, who confirmed that this significant contribution will greatly enhance the Ministry’s efforts to promote a reading culture and ensure equitable access to knowledge and information for lifelong learning.
The donation by IPPR will play a pivotal role in fostering a reading nation and establishing a knowledge-based society in Namibia. By providing access to a diverse range of literature, we aim to ignite a passion for reading among our citizens and empower them with the tools for continuous learning and personal growth.
Sarah Negumbo, the Director of Namibia Library and Archives Service (NLAS) echoed how the Directorate remains optimistic, by stating that this initiative will meaningfully contribute to the Directorate’s overarching goal.
“We believe that by enriching school and community library collections with these donated books, we can create environments that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity among our learners and community members. These donated books will undoubtedly enhance the value and effectiveness of school and community library collections across the nation. The Ministry, through NLAS, is fully committed to ensuring that the donated books reach all beneficiaries and are optimally utilized to maximize their impact on education and lifelong learning.”
