Landmark partnership for education

In a groundbreaking move to enhance skills training and foster international collaboration, Welwitchia University in Namibia signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Mutare Polytechnic of Zimbabwe.
The formal signing ceremony that took place at the Mutare Polytechnic late last month, marks a milestone for both institutions.
Mutare Polytechnic, widely recognised as one of Zimbabwe’s leading polytechnic institutions, is celebrated for its practical, hands-on approach to education, grounded in a heritage-based philosophy of using locally available resources. This new partnership seeks to advance higher education through innovation and mutual growth.
During her welcome remarks, Mutare Polytechnic Principal Poniso Watema hailed the agreement as a testament to the commitment of both institutions to drive educational excellence.
“The signing of this MoA seals our dedication to mutual growth, innovation and excellence in education,” Watema said.
She outlined the key objectives of the collaboration, which include facilitating joint research initiatives; developing academic programs and courses collaboratively; promoting the exchange of faculty, researchers, and students; sharing resources, facilities, and expertise; hosting joint seminars, workshops, and conferences; and encouraging research publications and dissemination.
Welwitchia University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Marius Hedimbi, echoed this sentiment, emphasising the transformative potential of the partnership. “Together, we will unlock new opportunities, leverage our strengths, and create a brighter future for our students, communities, and nations.”
Shared commitment
This alliance reflects a shared commitment to addressing regional and global challenges through education and innovation. By pooling their expertise and resources, the two institutions aim to empower students and educators with the skills needed to drive sustainable development and address pressing societal needs.
The partnership is also expected to enhance the global competitiveness of both institutions by fostering a culture of academic excellence and innovation.
The signing ceremony concluded with leaders from both institutions pledging to translate the MoA into meaningful actions. The collaboration is poised to deliver tangible benefits, from innovative research outputs to enhanced learning opportunities for students.
As this partnership unfolds, it is expected to set a benchmark for cross-border collaborations in higher education, positioning Welwitchia University and Mutare Polytechnic as leaders in the region’s academic landscape.
