Maltas, Sanlam host soup kitchen at Aris

The Maltas Club and Sanlam Namibia partnered last weekend for their second soup kitchen at the Aris Grundschule 25 km outside Windhoek.
The school was established in 1982 to give access to education to children from the surrounding villages. The school has 189 learners, starting from grade R to grade 7, most of whom come from a humble background, with 30 % of the learners being orphans or very vulnerable children
The school has a staff complement of eight teachers and seven hostel caretakers.
At the same time, the Maltas and Sanlam team also extended the “Keeping Rural Girls in School” initiative to the school.
The learners welcomed the team by singing songs in their local vernacular (KhoeKhoegowab), where after head hostel matron Riska Arnath gave the visitors an introduction to the school and shared some insights into the needs of the learners.
Sanlam, represented by Wessel Kotze, made a monetary contribution of N$3 000 to make the soup kitchen a success. This contribution also made it possible to educate the girls on sanitary health issues and all senior girls at the school were given sanitary towels and toiletries.
On a lighter note, a soccer ball was also donated to the school boys, and the girls were given a ball for netball.
The Maltas Club intends to conduct two more soup kitchens at the Aris Grundschule in the second semester of 2024. Another key event planned for the year will be a Christmas Party for the elderly on 8 December 2024 at Okafitu in the Omusati Region.
