Theory and practice come together

Welwitchia University (WU) and Side by Side Early Intervention Centre signed a Memorandum of Agreement to provide practical training and placement opportunities for Bachelor of Social Work students at the university.
The agreement, signed by acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Marius Hedimbi and Huipie van Wyk from the centre, establishes a collaborative framework that will enhance students' professional skills and prepare them for the workforce, contributing positively to the community.
"This partnership with Side by Side is a significant step in our commitment to providing our students with the best possible education,” Hedimbi said. “By combining our academic rigour and Side by Side's practical expertise, we ensure that our graduates are well-equipped to make a difference in the lives of those they serve."
Van Wyk added: "We are excited to partner with Welwitchia University to provide students with hands-on experience in a supportive and challenging environment. This collaboration will not only benefit the students but also enhance the services we provide to the community."
Under the terms of the agreement, WU will provide theoretical instruction, while Side by Side will host practical placements where students will gain on-the-job training under the supervision of qualified Fieldwork supervisors.
These supervisors will mentor students and oversee their progress, ensuring they meet the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
The anticipated outcome is the successful completion of the training programme and subsequent council registration for students, enabling them to practice as qualified social workers in Namibia.
