While Heroes' Day was being celebrated in the capital on Saturday, Gobabeb staff tried their hand at being environmental heroes by collecting and removing discarded bottles that defaced a roadside in the Namib-Naukluft National Park.
Five hours and 40 km later, more than 400 kg of discarded glass bottles had been collected.
The Gobabeb Training and Research Centre, as a center for scientific research, offers a unique opportunity for people who want to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Namib while contributing to its preservation. Whether you're a student, researcher or just a curious traveller, there are endless opportunities to get involved in meaningful local research projects.
"You can get involved in monitoring desert ecosystems, studying the behavior of fascinating wildlife, or researching the impact of climate change on this fragile environment," the center says.
As well as the research facilities, Gobabeb also offers a range of activities designed to make the experience unforgettable. “Guided tours take you on exciting adventures through the desert, where you can experience extraordinary geological formations, breathtaking sunsets and even spot some species of the desert's incredible flora and fauna. Whether you are a nature lover, passionate about photography or just looking for a unique holiday, the Gobabeb-Namib Research Institute is the perfect destination to combine your passion for tourism, conservation and the environmental industry.”
