Less than four weeks after one of eight Namibian cheetahs brought to India for reintroduction died, Kuno National Park reported another death.
This time, the cheetah was from South Africa. Six-year-old Uday was one of twelve cheetahs that arrived in India in February.
Kuno National Park authorities said Uday had fallen ill on Sunday morning and "appeared lethargic and limping" during the daily examination. He was anesthetized and received the first treatment around 11:00 after being taken out of the large enclosure. However, he died around 16:00 the same day.
Some Indian media reported that Uday died of kidney failure. "The cause of death will be determined during a post-mortem examination," the agency said. According to reports, the Namibian cheetah Sasha also died of kidney failure last month.
