N/a’an ku sê leads coastal clean-up
Namibians are being urged to unite for a crucial cause: preserving the beauty of the country’s coastline. The N/a’an ku sê Foundation’s Cleaning for Good 2024 campaign will bring together communities, influencers and corporate sponsors for a large-scale beach clean-up to protect marine life and the fragile coastal ecosystem. The festive season brings an influx of visitors to Namibia’s beaches, leaving behind waste that seriously threatens wildlife. Over 300 kilograms of garbage is removed from Long Beach alone each week, highlighting the urgent need for action.
“Namibia’s coastline is vital for marine and bird species, and it’s our responsibility to protect it from the devastating impact of waste,” said Colette Massier, head of fundraising at N/a’an ku sê. “This clean-up campaign offers an opportunity for everyone to make a tangible difference while fostering a culture of environmental care.”
The event takes place on 29 December from 08:00 to 14:00 at Long Beach. Participants not only help restore the coastline but also stand a chance to win exciting prizes such as quad bike rides, dolphin cruises, and restaurant vouchers, courtesy of the campaign’s sponsors.
“At N/a’an ku sê, we believe in the power of unity to create lasting change,” said co-founder and Executive Director Marlice van Vuuren. “This campaign is a chance for Namibians to come together and celebrate our shared responsibility to keep our country beautiful and pristine.”
