The Lion Rangers recently completed their Lion Ranger Wellbeing Training Workshop conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism and TOSCO (Tourism Supporting Conservation Trust) at the Uibasen-Twyfelfontein Conservation Area.
The training focused on drug and alcohol awareness provided by the Cornerstone Wellness Center - important information that rangers have learned and can pass on to their communities. “The training also included a refresher on the roles and responsibilities of lion rangers and an improvement in their skills using the SMART app 'Spatial and Monitoring and Reporting Tool', software that tracks rangers' activities via their smartphones sponsored by KfW and WWF Namibia (Reconstruction Loan Corporation and World Wildlife Fund),” says TOSCO.
"We would like to thank the KfW for covering the logistical costs for the training via the 'Community Conservation Fund of Namibia', the 'Conservation Travel Foundation' of Ultimate Safaris Namibia for equipping the Lion Rangers with brand new uniforms (branded shirts, trousers , shorts, boots, hats and socks) and to Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation (IRDNC) for providing an additional set of much-needed boots. Since June last year, foot patrols have covered more than 36 000 km.”
