N$100 000 for ‘greenest schools’
The Old Mutual Foundation’s Little Green Ambassadors Initiative has again inspired schools across Namibia to take action in creating greener, more sustainable learning environments.Launched in October 2023, this initiative empowers young learners to cultivate fruit-bearing trees and vegetable gardens, fostering environmental stewardship and food security within their communities.
After months of dedication, the top 5 Schools that demonstrated outstanding commitment to nurturing their green spaces were announced as Moreson Special School (Khomas) winning N$40 000 for their first place, ahead of Ariamsvlei Primary School (//Kharas - N$30 000), D.D Guibeb Primary School (Hardap – N$20 000), Ben van der Walt Primary School (Omaheke - N$10 000) and Wilhelm Nortier Primary School (Otjozondjupa – N$5 000).
Patricia Olivier, Chairperson of the Old Mutual Foundation, shared her enthusiasm for the initiative. “The Old Mutual Foundation is committed to driving positive change in our communities, focusing on education, sustainability and empowerment. Our mission is to inspire future generations to take active roles in the preservation of our environment while equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to make a difference.
“I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this initiative possible. Your commitment to sustainability and community development is truly inspiring. Together, let’s make a lasting impact on our environment and future generations,” Olivier said.
