Rhino Guardianship: Buy in now!
The Capricorn Foundation has become one of the first organisations to buy into the groundbreaking Rhino Guardianship Certificate program.
By investing in the Save the Rhino Trust Namibia (SRT) Rhino Guardianship Certificates, the foundation showcases its dedication to safeguarding critically endangered rhinoceros populations.
Developed by SRT and Wadappt, the program aims to bolster conservation endeavours and ensure the welfare of rhinos. These certificates play a direct role in funding vital resources such as ranger salaries and fuel, thereby contributing to rhino guardianship programs.
Marlize Horn, Executive Officer of the Capricorn Foundation, is excited about the purchase, saying that, “The Rhino Guardianship Certificate allows us to actively support conservation efforts and align with our sustainability objectives.”
She highlighted the incentive system of the initiative, which motivates rangers to enhance rhino protection through metrics like rhino sightings, patrol coverage, and field days. This system encourages increased positive patrol efforts, ultimately enhancing the safety of rhinos.
In the face of biodiversity decline and its significant economic risks, innovative financing mechanisms like the Rhino Guardianship Certificate are crucial for preserving and restoring natural resources. Notably, this initiative pioneers the use of blockchain technology to verify conservation performance, offering buyers assurance that their contributions yield tangible conservation outcomes.
David Wood, Founder and CEO of Wadappt, emphasised the growing consideration of nature risk among financial decision-makers and touted Wadappt's role in providing a pioneering sustainable finance solution.
The Rhino Guardianship Certificate is a unique initiative to protect Namibia's largest free-roaming herd of black rhinos by supporting the Khoisan community and anti-poaching efforts. Individuals and organizations purchasing these certificates contribute to conserving critically endangered species while aiding indigenous communities dedicated to their protection.
At the official launch in Windhoek, attendees including Save the Rhino Trust supporters, partners, and stakeholders learned firsthand the significance of SRT's work from staff, trustees, and Ministry of Environment Forestry and Tourism representatives.
