The countdown to the City of Windhoek's popular Windhoek Jazz Festival on 7 October at Windhoek High School's Vegkop Stadium has begun.
As a build-up to this year's extravaganza, the City announced the Local Artist Challenge taking place on Saturday (19 August) in the National Theatre of Namibia.
This unique challenge aims to showcase the incredible talent of local jazz musicians, providing them with a platform to captivate the audience with their harmonious creations. With the guidance of independent judges, the competition promises to be a display of exceptional talent and a celebration of the vibrant jazz scene in Windhoek. As the city hums with excitement for the main event in October, the Local Artist Challenge will set the stage ablaze with captivating rhythms and soulful melodies.
There are two categories, namely established artists (those with international or SADC awards, two or more album releases in the jazz genre, and international performance experience); and upcoming artists (emerging talents in the jazz genre without any international awards.
The established artists are Suzy Eises, Erna Chimu, Tschuku Tschuku, Naja, Riaan Smit, Savanna Afros, Crimson House and Slickartie; while the upcoming artists are Bonganisouls, Esme Songbird, Ula, Romancia, Sagarias Tsam, The Yesterdaye and Windhoek Jazz 3 Play.
Jazz enthusiasts and supporters can cast their votes for their favourite artists through dedicated voting lines - SMS to 62229 with a unique code for established artists or SMS to 62220 with a unique code for upcoming artists.
