Diana reveals national costume

Miss Namibia second runner-up, Diana Andimba (23), who has been selected to represent Namibia at the Miss Earth 2022 competition, revealed her national costume for the pageant which is set to take place in Manila, Philippines on 29 November.
Miss Earth is a major international beauty pageant that advocates for environmental awareness, conservation and social responsibility.
The pageant theme is “ME loves Fauna” and emphasises the importance of caring for animal life and creating awareness of how animals, whether wildlife or domestic, and especially endangered species, are essential to the environment.
National Miss Earth title holders are encouraged to use the pageant as a platform to raise awareness of their advocacy for the fauna they are representing and showcase the beauty and environmental efforts of their country.
Highlight the pangolin
Andimba chose to promote the conservation of the endangered pangolin. She was tasked with doing a photo shoot to showcase her costume, which is one of the requirements for the final judging of the pageant.
Pangolins are the only mammals wholly covered in scales. Andimba's costume was sketched and designed by Bethany Beukes-Kapa and made by Dawn Diergaardt.
The Miss Namibia pageant has started a new chapter and the decision was taken to afford an opportunity to proudly Namibian designers to dress the selected candidates for the upcoming international pageants.
The selection process was based on the type of attire designers make, eveningwear being a good benchmark, as well as references made to their previous showings at the annual MTC Windhoek Fashion Week.
This provided a welcome chance for seasoned designers as well as debut and upcoming designers to showcase their skills.
It helped the Miss Namibia team in picking designers who fit the criteria and had an understanding of pageantry.
During the selection process, nine designers who were up to the challenge of creating a cohesive yet original storyline for both Miss Namibia and Miss Teen Namibia were selected.
Create awareness
Andimba’s objective is to support pangolin conservation efforts and to advocate for the protection of their habitats across the African continent. In addition, she will work to raise awareness, locally and internationally, about the plight of the pangolin and its value within the Namibian ecosystem.
She similarly hopes to implement projects that promote the reduction of the trade and trafficking of pangolins and to educate the public and conservation agencies to take a stand against pangolin trafficking.
Among the scheduled activities for the Miss Earth Pageant are the preliminary judging of participants' personalities, fitness and form, and beauty of face judging rounds.
Delegates are scheduled to arrive in the Philippines on 12 November.
