Top journalism is rewarded
The cream of the Namibian journalism crop will be awarded in Windhoek next week in categories ranging from sports to agriculture and politics.The Editors' Forum of Namibia (EFN), in partnership with First National Bank's prestigious awards ceremony for outstanding journalism for 2020 and 2021 will take place on 19 October at Droombos.
The guest speaker is the South African investigative journalist and author Jacques Pauw, who will shed more light on his latest literary work, Our Poisoned Land, a follow-up to the bestseller The President's Keepers. While the latter focused on former president Jacob Zuma's darkest secrets, the spotlight in Our Poisoned Land falls on high-ranking police officers involved in state capture and who still hold positions within the Hawks and crime intelligence units.
A virtual interview will also be conducted during the event with the world-renowned Israeli writer and historian Yuval Noah Harari about the comprehensive impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the future of humanity and the implications it has for journalism. He is also the author of Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind (2014), Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow (2016), and 21 Lessons for the 21st Century (2018) appeared from his pen.
Awards are made in seven categories, with each winner receiving a cash prize of N$15 000 and a certificate. The Journalist of the Year for 2023 will be selected from 169 entries from 59 journalists and will be rewarded with N$25,000.
