Power Sparks Namibia

Augetto Graig
In this edition, we focus on electrical power; the progress Namibia has made in generating electricity, in transmitting it across the vast length and breadth of this country, and at the work being done to distribute it to the homes and businesses, the schools and hospitals where that electricity make a daily difference to the everyday lives of ordinary Namibians.
The task is monumental, with challenges both historic and modern that remain to be conquered. However, Namibia is not called the ‘land of the brave’ for nothing, and this African nation has ambitions to light up the lives of not only its inhabitants, but of brothers and sisters across the continent.
Renewable energy is being put to work with solar generation mushrooming across the country.
Yet, Namibia is not about to be hemmed into only one solution and innovation is evident, with progress being made to generate electricity from encroaching invader bush being just one example. With Ruacana doing the most in terms of contributing hydroelectric power to the nation, Namibia continues to make progress in realising its dream, to one day help light up all of Africa.
