Electricity redistributors, resellers to register

Gerine Hoff
The City of Windhoek’s electricity department announced that all electricity redistributors (11kV clients operating their own networks) and resellers (clients with sub-metering who manage private metering for their customers) must complete mandatory registration.
This needs to be done by 30 April 2025.
The City said in a statement that all registered redistributors and resellers are required to comply with the Electricity Act, 2007, governing the redistribution and reselling of electricity, and that non-compliance with these regulations may result in penalty charges.
The City said that a registry of approved resellers and sub-metering contractors is maintained by the electricity department and is available to clients seeking these services.
Furthermore, as of March 2025, only registered sub-metering contractors will be authorised to perform sub-metering work within the City of Windhoek’s licensed area.
Registration forms can be obtain from [email protected] and completed forms must be submitted physically at the electricity department in their original format.
