C ommunity activist Koos Mazenge from Outjo contacted champion kickboxer Delano Müller with a request for a wheelchair to aid disabled Rilongeni Mbahumua (18), who is unemployed.
The wheelchair was donated under Müller’s “Making sports accessible to everyone together” initiative through which the kickboxer aims to empower those who do not have the means to realize their potential in sports.
An overjoyed Mbahumua received her new wheelchair along with sweets and snacks from Müller to start a small business from her home.
Müller, who won the 2021 Community Inspiration Award at the Namibia Sports Awards, used his prize money to buy the wheelchair.
Mazenge said that they are also in need of sports equipment.
“I think I met up with the right person. We have a Cricket Academy in town that is in dire need of sports equipment, so I hope the foundation can help us get the things we need.”
Müller said that he is focusing on improving the lives of various individuals who are struggling after the pandemic. “I am doing this by handing over wheelchairs, walking aids, sweets and snacks for them to sell so as to earn a small income. In turn this will keep them busy and add value to their lives.”
This marks the second time Müller is opening his heart to the community. Last year he helped a boy who lost his legs in his early childhood years.
“The best reason for supporting others is to find joy in making an impact in their lives,” he said.
