Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project launched
Collective efforts can foster positive change
Bank Windhoek's managing director, Baronice Hans, launched the 23rd edition of the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project in Windhoek on Wednesday, emphasising the connection between a nation's prosperity and the well-being of its people. The initiative promotes corporate social responsibility, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship with communities for a sustainable future.
The project's e-Apple platform on the bank's website encourages contributors to buy physical or virtual apples and apple juice, all priced affordably. Since its inception in 2000 with an initial donation of N$250 000, the project has raised an impressive N$33.9 million for the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN), making it one of the country's most significant corporate social initiatives dedicated to making a tangible difference in the lives of cancer patients.
CAN's chief executive, Rolf Hansen, highlighted the project's role in creating a channel for individuals, businesses, and organizations to support the fight against cancer in Namibia. In the past reporting year, CAN's efforts resulted in screening 991 men for prostate cancer, with 21 cases receiving treatment, and 3,634 women underwent cervical cancer screening, with 53 cases referred for treatment. The project also partnered with the Dr AB May Cancer Care Centre to sponsor biopsy kits, enabling early breast cancer detection and better curative outcomes.
The theme of this year's project, #HeroesUnite, symbolizes unity in overcoming challenges and contributing to a cause that impacts millions. By supporting the Cancer Apple Fundraising Project, participants stand against cancer, offering hope to those in need. The Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project plans to donate all raised funds to the Cancer Association of Namibia in November 2023.
Through collective efforts and community engagement, the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project aims to make a significant and positive impact in the fight against cancer, uniting heroes from all walks of life in support of this critical cause.
Several partners have joined forces with the project, including NamPost and FP Du Toit for transportation services, Jaylo Productions as the official sound and production partner, Namibia Fresh Produce and Food Lovers Market for vital resources, Solitaire Press as the printing partner, Maerua SuperSpar for contributing school prizes, and media partners NBC, The Namibian newspaper, and Kosmos radio.
