Breakthrough in retinal treatment

A breakthrough in retinal care and a new chapter for treating retinal conditions, specifically central serous choroidopathy, diabetic macular oedema and retinal vein occlusions. This breakthrough was made at the Olympia Eye & Laser Centre when Dr Talitha Maritz successfully performed a series of treatments with the advanced Navilas® Laser System 577s Prime.
Retinal issues, such as fluid build-up commonly occurring during the above conditions, can seriously affect a person's vision. Although traditional laser treatments have been used for some time to tackle these issues, the Navilas® laser technology represents significant progress. Unlike conventional laser, this system only uses a fraction of the energy that ensures precise treatment without damaging the surrounding tissue.
This makes it a much safer and gentler option to restore sight.
The treatment uses microsecond pulses that stimulate the affected areas of the retina which in turn helps to reduce the fluid and improve vision. The treatment never reaches the intensity that would cause permanent damage, making it the ideal solution for delicate retinal conditions such as central serous choroidopathy and as an adjunctive therapy for diabetic macular oedema and retinal vein occlusions.
Olympia Eye & Laser Centre is the first centre in Namibia to offer this treatment in its efforts to bring the most advanced, patient-friendly eye care solutions to the country. "We are very excited to have access to this pioneering technology," Maritz says. "This enables us to offer our patients more precise, comfortable and effective treatments that significantly improve their quality of life." - [email protected]
