JUST IN: TB screening campaign underway in Khomas

As part of the health ministry's efforts to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) in the country, a mass screening campaign is currently underway in the Khomas Region. Namibia is one of the top 10 countries in the world with the highest number of cases per 100 000 inhabitants reported annually. Last year, 8 604 new cases were reported, of which 15% were in Khomas.
The campaign already kicked off in September in the Hardap Region, followed by Omaheke and Khomas where tests will be conducted until 21 October in Windhoek. Part of the tests include a tuberculin test, X-rays as well as spit and urine tests. In particular, residents with low immunity, who live with HIV, as well as children under the age of five and the elderly are encouraged to get screened.
