As a sign of her continued commitment to improving healthcare and supporting education in Africa, the founder of the Osaat Africa Health Foundation will award a scholarship to prospective students in the sector.
Besides being a medical doctor, philanthropist and international speaker, Dr Esperance Luvindao says financial support from others during her years as a student of St Paul's College was essential for her academic and professional development. According to Luvindao, she is excited to plough back to the community and that the scholarship gives her the opportunity to support the next generation of health professionals.
With both her life challenges and triumphs as inspiration, she wants to create a similar foundation for aspiring students in healthcare.
The scholarship is also a confirmation of her commitment to improving healthcare in Africa and to supporting the continent's future leaders.
The Dr Esperance Luvindao Healthcare Scholarship is presented in partnership with the Osaat Africa Health Foundation established in 2019, to provide quality healthcare to all regardless of their socioeconomic status.
The foundation focuses on teaching women about their health in their mother tongue, using comics to share information with young girls, as well as promoting digital health for lower socioeconomic groups.
To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must email [email protected] before 15 July to reserve a spot for a short multiple-choice test on contraception, HIV and breast cancer based on information available on osaatafrica.com. Applications for Oshakati close on 31 August and on 30 September for Rundu.
The young women who are successful in the evaluation then have the opportunity to apply for the scholarship by submitting a one-page curriculum vitae (CV) and a letter of motivation to be eligible for a fully funded scholarship to study health-related courses at certain institutions.
The key aspect of the scholarship programme is the placement of the young women in internships after the completion of their studies. The scholarship will fully cover tuition and some academic-related expenses.
According to Luvindao, the scholarship is just the beginning and she hopes to remain committed to the continued improvement of healthcare in Africa.
