MICT prioritises mental health
The Khomas Regional Office of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) recently hosted the first platform for mental health well-being at the workplace information sharing session with ministerial staff.The event featured distinguished speakers who shared insights and perspectives on various facets of personal mental health well-being knowledge at the workplace and everywhere.
With his characteristic warmth, mental health practitioner Dr Byron Bock shed light on the background, purpose and prevention of mental health issues in the work environment.
In essence, he shared information regarding how to be aware of the signs and symptoms of mental health illness and how to cope with a person who is mentally ill.
Bock stressed the need to start having open and honest discussions, breaking down barriers and dispelling untruths and misconceptions about mental health at all levels.
Clinical psychologist Maike Eysselein explained that the mind-mental health theory is about the emotional, psychological and social well-being of individuals that influences their thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
She concluded that it is important to make mental health a priority so that everyone can handle stress, relate to others and be productive wherever they may be.
In closing, MICT executive director Audrin Mathe emphasised that employees should prioritise their health before money at all times.
