#MovemberNovember – going blue for a good cause
Partners take hands
Having a blue day, or blue Monday may seem disturbing, but this November the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) and partners encourage Namibians to “Go blue for a good cause”!“Men’s health awareness, mental health, men’s cancer awareness and in particular prostate cancer awareness are critical topics that need addressing,” says CAN chief executive Rolf Hansen.
“Not only are prostate cancer cases increasing (GLOBOCAN estimates that prostate cancer will be the lead cancer in Namibia within the next 3-5 years!), but we see alarming numbers of male depression and suicide in our country too.
“Are men afraid to speak up? Do men feel ashamed to say ‘I need help’? We’ve seen this stigma around men’s physical health and cancer screening and now it pops up again with mental health issues,” he says.
To address the issue, CAN on Thursday formally launched #MovemberNovember campaign.
At the same time, CAN announced that Pupkewitz Volkswagen is sponsoring two vehicles for the duration of the #MovemberNovember campaign to bring Team CAN to various parts of the country for a roadshow and PSA-Screening campaign, which includes performances by South Africa’s Rudi Claase.
His performances are as follows:
• Tuesday 15 November: Die Dam, Gobabis
• Wednesday 16 November: Crocodile Farm, Otjiwarongo
• Thursday 17 November: NG Church Pionierspark, Windhoek
• Friday 18 November: Swakopmund town hall (next to Medi-Clinic)
Welcome drinks for all shows take place at 18:30 and the show starts at 19:00. Tickets: N$180 in advance via webtickets.com.na or N$250 at the doors.
