Airport road renamed after Geingob

The B9 highway from Windhoek to Hosea Kutako International Airport, was renamed in honour of the late president Hage Geingob who passed away in February on Saturday.
The road, which is currently under construction, will now be known as the Dr. Hage Geingob highway.
President Nangolo Mbumba attended the event and described Geingob as a distinguished servant of the Namibian people who paved the way to prosperity.
Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba and former First Lady Monica Geingos also attended the ceremony held on Geingob's birthday, 3 August. He would have turned 83 on Saturday.
"The road that bears his [Hage Geingob's] name will serve as a tribute to his lasting impact on our society. May this road be a symbol of resilience, progress and unity - values ​​that the late H.E. Dr. Hage Geingob pursued all his life", said Lily Brandt, the chairman of the Road Authority's directors during the ceremony.
The construction of the highway amounts to about N$949 million and construction work is expected to be completed by November this year.
The road's construction began in March 2020 and approximately 300 people were employed during the construction phase. The project is financed by the Chinese government, which made an amount of N$1 billion available for it.
