New look for Swakop promenade
One of Swakopmund’s iconic landmarks, the beach promenade, is set to receive corporate branding as part of a partnership between the Swakopmund Municipal Council and Hollard Namibia. The three-year agreement will see the insurance company contribute N$150 000 annually towards the maintenance of the promenade – which winds for about three kilometres from the beach at the Mole to the Platz Am Meer waterfront – in exchange for brand exposure along the route.
The agreement, which was approved by council at its last council meeting on 27 February, is seen as a win-win partnership for both parties. While Swakopmund benefits financially from helping to maintain the popular walkway, Hollard Namibia gains brand visibility in a way that respects the promenade’s historical and cultural significance.
The promenade is a focal point of the town’s tourism and recreation and connects to other well-known sites, including the jetty, the Schad Promenade and Strand Hotel.
“This partnership will help ensure that the promenade remains a draw for both residents and international visitors, while reducing the financial pressure on the municipality,” Wilfried Groenewald, chair of the council’s management committee, said at the council meeting.
In addition to branding, the partnership opens the door to additional contributions from Hollard Namibia, including the possibility of litter bins along the walkway to keep the area clean.
“The proposal also aims to enhance Swakopmund’s position as a leading, innovative tourist destination,” said Hollard, that proposes the introduction of QR codes on signage to give visitors digital access to historical and tourist information about the promenade. - [email protected]
