Still no fuel at NWR resorts
Halali experiences water, power problems
Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) has apologised for the lack of fuel at its resorts Halali, Okaukuejo, Namutoni, Terrace Bay, Sesriem Campsite, the /Ai /Ais Hot Springs and Spa as well as Waterberg.Halali is also experiencing a power and water outage.
NWR spokesperson Nelson Ashipala said yesterday that the fuel issue had unfortunately not been resolved after a week and that the challenge lay with the suppliers.
There is little to no fuel available at any of the resorts in the Etosha National Park. NWR has urged travellers to plan their trips carefully as there is still no fuel available at any of its rest camps with petrol stations.
According to Ashipala, Enercon, a third-party supplier, has apparently not been supplying fuel to some of the resorts since January. Enercon is contracted to supply fuel to NWR, including the resorts in the Etosha National Park.
A fuel shortage was already experienced at pumps in Etosha in March last year, with the partnership between NWR and Enercon reportedly collapsing in 2023.
Enercon was then reportedly not supplying fuel for six months, but is still reportedly receiving millions thanks to a controversial clause in their contract.
In addition, there is a power and water outage at the Halali resort in Etosha.
“This is due to the force of nature and Cenored is trying to resolve the situation. Everyone who has booked at Halali will be accommodated at Okaukuejo and Namutoni at no additional cost until the situation is resolved,” Ashipala said.
He urged clients to contact their booking office to discuss the changes to determine where they would like to be relocated. – [email protected]
