From a small vineyard in the beautiful Otavi mountain valley in Namibia to a state-of-the-art landmark wine museum housed in an aluminium and glass building in one of France’s most prestigious wine regions.
This is the fairytale of Boshoff Family Wines, which can now boast two wines featured in the renowned Cité du Vin museum in Bordeaux, France.
The Cité du Vin opened in June 2017, and by May 2024, nearly three million visitors had passed through its doors. La Cité du Vin is a unique cultural centre dedicated to the universal, living heritage of wine.
“Out of the thousands of wines in the world, our cellar was chosen to display two bottles,” Gilmar and Tamara Boshoff, the founders and winemakers of Boshoff Family Wines, wrote on their Facebook page. “That’s two stories of dedication, terroir and the passion of our small but mighty team, now sitting alongside the greats,” they added.
“We’re absolutely ecstatic to share that our wines are now on display at the prestigious Cité du Vin museum in Bordeaux! That’s right, our little Namibian vineyard has made it to one of the world’s most celebrated wine destinations,” they proudly shared.
Two Namibian legends
The red blend, the Red Katholischer (Catholic), has been in production since 2018, with an initial production of 600 bottles. Over time, the composition of the blend has deepened depending on the harvest, with the current vintage featuring Syrah, Mourvèdre, Tempranillo, Barbera, and a touch of Viognier.
The white blend, White Katholischer, has been on the market since Boshoff Family Wines’ first harvest in 2018, starting with only 300 bottles.
Over time, the quality has improved, thanks to the cellar’s new pneumatic membrane press, which is enclosed and reduces oxidation during the pressing process.
