FEAST Restaurant Week commences with international chef collaboration
In commemoration of World Food Day, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Namibia joined hands with the USA embassy, the Namibia Trade Forum, and local restaurants to introduce a sensational culinary event: The FEAST Restaurant Week.Kicking off on Monday, the event brings together five international chefs to explore and celebrate local cuisine at five prominent local restaurants.
“We are so excited about this partnership and the cultural exchange that will allow to share best practices and learn from each other so that we are able to better manage our gifts as chefs and feed those that need to be fed – not just those near but those far as well,” said renowned personal chef and mastermind behind FEAST restaurant week, Otto Borsich.
The core theme of FEAST Restaurant Week, "sustainable sustenance: nourishing people, building sustainable and resilient food systems", underscores the importance of fostering sustainable and resilient food networks while celebrating the richness of local indigenous cuisine.
Throughout the week, a dynamic schedule will unfold, with two chefs collaborating at each restaurant to create innovative dishes with a foreign twist, offering patrons a tantalizing experience that bridges culinary traditions.
Monday's festivities are being hosted at Livega, while Tuesday's culinary journey takes place at Katakombe. Wednesday marks the culinary crescendo with a Chef's Culinary Feast, where all ten chefs will unite for a gala dinner at Droombos. This dinner promises to be a grand culmination of flavours and culture, as the beneficiary project is unveiled. On Thursday, the culinary exploration shifts to TASTE, and on Friday, the event takes a turn by hosting a youth skills transfer workshop at Sandwerf for the local youth of Dordabis.
This initiative is not just about tantalizing taste buds but also about empowering the local community and fostering an appreciation for sustainable food systems.
The chefs expected to participate in this week of culinary goodness include Livega’s Gilda Nujoma with chef Lanny Chin, TASTE’S Nicla dos Santos with chef Yvette Bonnano and Katakombe’s Amanda Lethagoje with chef Roshni Gurnani.
“It is so exciting to be able to learn from our guests that will be helping out in the kitchen. This so much to learn from cultural engagements in kitchens. I will be cooking with chef Roshni Gurnani,” said Katakombe head chef, Amanda Lethagoje.
