CBD brightened by Christmas lights
The switching on of Christmas lights in the centre of town is a sign that the festive season is upon us.This year's event was accompanied by a Christmas market where local entrepreneurs could showcase their products and services.
According to Lydia Amutenya, spokesperson for the Windhoek municipality, this event is a highlight on their calendar. “It allows families to spend the day together and just to do Christmas shopping.”
During her speech as outgoing mayor, Sade Gawanas said she believes the new mayor and the rest of the management committee will be able to improve on what was achieved this year. “The council will ensure fast and efficient service delivery, as well as opportunities for improved economic progress, the development of infrastructure and financial sustainability,” she said.
According to her, it was a busy year with conflicting priorities and ongoing financial constraints. One of the challenges they faced was a lack of leadership in critical positions. “But the council made brave and necessary decisions to promote the strategic goals,” she said.
